NBA Draft Diary: Dion Waiters Profile
Dion Waiters 6’4 Shooting Guard – Syracuse
Strengths: Dion Waiters has a natural feel for the game on the offensive end. He has a very solid jump shot, but his real strength is penetrating the lane. Waiters is very explosive and has the body control and strength to finish in the paint. He is especially effective in one-on-one isolation situations, which will easily translate to the next level. He has the ability to play both point guard and shooting guard but he will likely spend the majority of his time at shooting guard in the NBA. He came off the bench for Syracuse this year, but was just as important as any of their starters.
Weaknesses: Waiters will have to adjust to playing defense at the pro level. He is currently a product on Syracuse’s 2-3 system but in the NBA he will need to dedicate himself to playing solid man to man defense. On the offensive end he will need to learn to use his strong frame to get to the line more often.
